Water restrictions in Cape Town

The City's current restriction level, how restrictions are decided, and where the dams could be by the end of the season.

What level are restrictions at now?

How are restrictions decided?

Each year the national Department of Water and Sanitation sets how much water the supply system can provide, based mainly on how full the dams are at the end of winter. The City then decides whether restrictions are needed.

Starting summer lower than usual leaves less room before restrictions are needed.
